History:
In 2012, the late Dr. Fortune Tam-Kennedy, one of the pioneers of FEUNAFInc.USA, envisioned to create a legacy for Dr. Lydia A. Palaypay in a form of a Foundation. It was a year later , after Dr. Kennedy's passing when an ad-hoc committee was formed to create the foundation which would be known as the "Lydia Arao Palaypay Endowment" Fund. (LAPE). During the Grand Reunion held in Detroit in 2014, LAPE with an initial funding of $20K was formally launched. Present during this occasion were Dr. Michael Alba, President  of FEU, Dr. Belinda Buenafe from Class '76, Dean of FEU-IN and the honoree, Dr. Lydia A. Palaypay.
By January, 2016, the funding reached $50K. During the Grand Reunion in Manila 2016, FEUNAF USA President Nelson Co presented a check of $50K to FEU Chair Aurelio Montinola and Chair Emeritus Dr. Lourdes Montinola and FEU President Michael Alba.
On February 2019,  an additional $6K was presented of which to be used as a start up fund to start the LAPE scholarship during the school year 2019-2020 for 3 years at $2K per year.

It is my honor and privilege to introduce to you the first endowment project of FEUNAF INC USA, the Felicidad Diaz Elegado Endowment (FDEE) in honor of the late Felicidad Elegado who was the first Dean of the Instiute of nursing. She is being remembered for initiating the transition of the school of nursing to Baccalaureate Degree nursing program with strong commitment & concern to improve Nursing Education not only in FEU but also throughout the country & abroad.

This project was named “Felicidad Diaz Elegado Professorial Chair” when it was conceived in 1991. Each of the 4 original Chapters, (Chicago, New York, Northern & Southern Califonia ) contributed $5000 (Five thousand dollars) each Chapter, a total of $20,000 seed money to start the project. After finalizing the MOU and collected the funds, the project was formally launched on January 19, 1994 in a formal Tea Reception at FEU. The MOU was signed here by President Felixberto Sta Maria for FEU; Dean Lydia Palaypay for FEUIN, Nelson Co for FEUNAF,USA. In attendance were the following: Elegado family; Nelson Co; Tess Manuel; Carmelita Rafols; Lourdes Nisperos of FEUNAF,USA; FEUIN faculty; FEUNAF Phils President Armando Entienza & other FEU Dept Heads.

The late Dr. Fortune Kennedy has chaired & myself as the co-chair until Dr. Kennedy’s passing in Feb 2014, I succeeded her as chair in 2014 to the present. Initially, the Chapter Presidents /or an officer of the Executive council also served in the committee.

The purpose of this project is to promote continued professional development of faculty members of the Institute of Nursing. The original goal of this project was to assist faculty members who were not Masters prepared to finish their degree.

By 2011, all faculty members being hired were all Masters prepared therefore, the scholarship was changed to sponsoring a faculty in the dissertation phase of the doctoral program.

In 2014, it has been decided to keep this Elegado Professorial Chair a perpetual project. A Php 1 (0ne) million was invested as the principal appropriation to convert the funds to an endowment. Only the interest will be used as the revolving fund to use for projects.
This project’s name then changed to “Felicidad Diaz Elegado Endowment, (FDEE).

In 2016, there was a need to assist in the Faculty;ty-Student Research Projects, so funds were diverted to assist in the research projects until the FEU Research Department approved full funding of the IN Research projects .

In 2017, with the implementation of the K-12 program, the direction of the university changed. For Nursing to be in-line with the university’s vision & mission, IN Dean Belinda Buenafe submitted 3 proposals through the FEU Educational Foundation, Ruth del Rosario,
As follows:

   # 1 Proposal - Interactions & sharing by alumni on their expertise tthru Web or Video conferencing for both the IN faculty & students

ACTION done by FEUNAF, USA : Launched a yearly collaborative 1st International Nursing Conference (INC) in 2020 and  on going.

#2 Proposal - Expand the opportunities for International mobility for IN faculty thru international visit/or Immersion Program.

ACTION done by FDEE Committee : Thru the assistance of Dr. Emma Cuenca, our FEUAlumni, Class “77, a Professor at UCLA, we successfully got into a collaborative signed agreement between FEU & UCLA Initially working for 1 o 2 IN faculty to attend Simulation training & to be certified at UCLA.

    # 3 Proposal - Collaborative research with alumni who are into active research to expose IN faculty to International standard with regards to research & publication.

ACTION by FDEE Committee : Will be the next collaborative agenda with UCLA with their nursing research program.

FDEE’s currently funding, the ACoNS Project (Amplifying the Contributions of Nurses in the Society) formally launched in
July 2023. It is an annual online publication of the Institute of nursing which envisions to deliver easy to red articles on topics
significant to health & nursing. This project was initiated by 3 IN faculty : Joy Abiog Filoteo; Rachelle Sarmiento; & Joyce Acena.
Editor: Dr. Joemer Maravilla & Harold Doroteo as co-editor, both an FEU Alumnus.

Since its inception ,the use of the funds continues to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of the faculty, the Institute & the community . With intermittent lapses of inactivity ,thru the years the Elegado has funded 4 faculty members to acquire their Masters Degree, one (1) who completed her Doctoral Degree during her Dissertation phase, & funded at least 5 joint research projects of faculty & students to present their projects to the public.

As of June 2023, FDEE total funds - Php 1,592,207. 10
Endowment deposit - Php 1 mil
           For use ——————— Php 592,200.10
           Dollar Acct —————- $ 9,975.23

In 2022, with the creation of the One Fund Nicanor Reyes Foundation the FDEE Fund was transferred from the FEU Educational Foundation to the FEU Alumni Scholarship & Financial Aid Programs under the management of the Alumni Relations office.

As FEU approaches it’s Centennial Anniversary, the FDEE Committee’s projects will continue to be in line with the University’s vision & Mission by continually encouraging the faculty to explore strategies to uplift the level of quality education that will assist students to be prepared to be independent proficient & safe nurses in a variety of health care settings.

The FDEE Committee is much concern with the sustainability of our projects to keep adequate funds. This can only be achieved through the generous support of our Alumni, family & friends. With your generous support thru our fund-raising efforts that will soon begin, you will be part of of a legacy of the FEUIN in producing competent nurses that all of us will be proud of for a lifetime. Thank you to all for supporting our cause for FDEE!
